Rove — Compare project tools
Compare Tasklane, Boardly and Northlist for a five-person team. We want something simple and under $50 a month.

Rove

I checked each tool's pricing page and setup guide. Here's how they compare for five people:

Tasklane$40About an hour Best fit
Boardly$60Half a dayMore visual
NorthlistFreeMinutesToo limited

Recommendation: Tasklane meets your budget and is the quickest to learn. Northlist is free but lacks shared due dates.

See Rove in action

One task. A few ways forward.

Ask the way you'd ask a capable colleague. Rove replies with something you can use, and the conversation stays open for whatever comes next.

Illustrative example — no task is running.

Ask a follow-up…

Step in whenever you like.

When Rove is using a browser for your task, you can take over, then hand it back. Try the steps — this is part of the illustration, nothing is connected.

From ask to done

Three plain steps, at your pace.

  1. 01

    Ask in your own words

Start a task straight away — no workflow setup needed. Describe what you want the way you'd say it out loud.

  2. 02

Let Rove help carry it through

Rove works through the task with you, attaching a browser when the job calls for it. Stop pauses the work at any point; it doesn't close the conversation.

  3. 03

Keep the result. Continue the conversation.

Results stay with the task. Come back later, ask a follow-up, and carry on from where you were.

Workflows

A home for the work that comes back.

A workflow is a reusable place for recurring work and the context that goes with it — not a rigid automation chart. Tasks started inside it can draw on what you've already told Rove.

A name is enough to start. Preferences and background are optional, and you can add them whenever they become useful.

  • Job search

Context: Remote roles, UK time zones. Keep cover letters under 250 words.

    • Shortlist this week's openings
    • Tailor letter for Halden Co.
  • Weekly research

Context: Summaries in plain English, sources listed at the end.

    • Recap: community garden grants
  • Project planning

Context: None yet — just the name.

    • Draft kickoff agenda
    • Compare project tools
  • Fictional examples.

You stay in charge

Hand it off, or work side by side.

Agent

For delegating

Describe the task and let Rove work through it. Check in when you like, stop it at any point, and continue later.

Companion

For working alongside

Keep Rove nearby while you do the work yourself — asking questions, getting a second pair of eyes, picking up small steps.

Passing the browser back and forth. When Rove is using a browser, you can take over. It pauses its own browser work while you're in control, then looks again before continuing.

Your sign-ins stay yours. Websites and connected services may ask you to sign in yourself. Rove doesn't need you to hand over passwords to get started.

Keep the thread. Stop when you need to. Your task, saved results and conversation remain ready for a follow-up.

Questions

Good to know.

What is Rove?

Rove is a desktop task and workflow assistant for getting digital work done. You describe a task in your own words, Rove helps carry it through, and the result stays with the conversation so you can continue later.

Do I need technical experience?

No. Rove is designed for everyday use. If you can describe what you want in a message, you can use it.

Why workflows?

Some work keeps coming back — a job search, weekly research, an ongoing project. A workflow gives that work a home, with optional context Rove can use each time. Standalone tasks work fine without one.

Do I need an account?

Rove uses Codex through your eligible ChatGPT account for model-assisted work. Your account's usage limits apply. The website itself needs no account, and you don't need a separate API key.

Where does my data go?

Task history, outputs and files Rove creates are stored on your Mac. To do the work, relevant context — your request, page content, screenshots or files you select — may be sent to Codex/OpenAI and to services you authorize. Rove is not an offline-only assistant.

Which Macs does Rove support?

Macs with Apple Silicon (M1 or later) running macOS 13 or later.
