How it works

Ask, share the work, keep going.

Rove is built around a simple conversation. Here's what happens from the moment you type a request to the moment you come back to it next week.

  1. 01

    Start with a task

Open Rove and write what you need in everyday language — “compare these three tools”, “tidy up these notes into an email”, “find a quiet place to stay in May”. No setup, templates or workflow needed.

Each task is its own conversation. Rove replies with something you can use: a summary, a comparison, a draft, a plan. Ask follow-ups to refine it.

  2. 02

    Agent: hand it over

When you'd rather delegate, Rove works through the task for you. If the job needs the web, a browser is attached to the task so Rove can look things up and work through pages.

You can check in whenever you like. Pressing Stop pauses the work — the conversation stays open, so you can pick it back up or point it in a new direction.

  3. 03

    Companion: work alongside it

Sometimes you want to stay hands-on. Companion keeps Rove beside you while you do the work yourself: ask questions, get a second opinion, or have it take on a small step.

It's the same Rove, just a different way of sharing the work.

  4. 04

Passing the browser back and forth

If Rove is using a browser for your task and you want to step in — to sign in, choose something, or simply look around — take over. Rove pauses its own browser work so nothing conflicts with what you're doing.

When you hand it back, Rove takes a fresh look at the page as you left it before continuing. Websites and connected services may still ask you to sign in yourself.

  5. 05

    Workflows for recurring work

A workflow is a home for work that keeps coming back — a job search, weekly research, a long-running project. Give it a name and you're ready; add preferences or background later if they help.

Tasks you start inside a workflow can draw on that context, so you don't have to repeat yourself. Workflows are flexible places to keep related work, not rigid automations.

  6. 06

Keep the result, come back later

Results and the files Rove creates stay with the task on your Mac. Return any time, see what was done, and continue the conversation from where you left off.

  7. Connecting your account

Rove uses Codex through your eligible ChatGPT account for model-assisted work. Your account's usage limits apply. No separate API key is needed.

Try it with your own tasks.
